Flexibility was required, on our part and also on that of our customers. This was the only way to implement the projects as planned, despite the exceptional situation. Our extensive network of partners and suppliers paid off in particular. It enabled us to switch to such subcontractors at short notice, whose staff was allowed to work on our construction sites without restrictions despite the crisis.

The health and safety of our own staff and that of our subcontractors is our top priority, even if our margin is affected by these measures. So we invested in generous construction site equipment for all of our projects. We have provided larger containers, more sanitary facilities and washing facilities, as well as protective masks and disinfectants. Compliance with the safe distance regulations and other hygiene and protective measures was checked not only by our own site management, but also by independent external experts.

Flexibility was also required when it came to the choice of components. Some rescheduling was needed at the last minute, always in coordination with our customers and suppliers. This enabled us to significantly reduce delivery delays. Where necessary, we optimized construction times and increased the number of staff.

We are proud we were able to meet these special challenges together with our customers, partners and suppliers.

The Almelo photovoltaic park presented the bejulo team with unusual challenges, as site manager Jürgen Barz reports: “The area previously used for agriculture was in itself quite easy to access. The challenges were rather the size of the plant paired with logistical peculiarities and the coordination of the project participants. For such a large free-field solar project, a considerable amount of material has to be moved. In the hot construction phase, 15 to 20 trucks enter the construction site every day. In order to reduce the burden on the local population, we chose routing that avoided schools and school routes. Furthermore, the municipality, as the authority responsible for issuing the building permit, attached great importance to ensuring that the facility blends in harmoniously with the landscape. For this purpose, existing visual axes have been integrated into the layout of the system, which makes it virtually see-through.”

Project manager Annika Eidt names the extremely complex coordination within the international structure of the project participants as a further challenge in the implementation: “As the EPC partner, we had to gather all the threads together. These included close and complex coordination processes with the local Dutch administration and the local population, coupled with the interests of the Danish investor Obton A / S, the coordination with the Dutch project developer and various contractors from the Netherlands, Italy and Germany. We are proud to have completed this project smoothly, on time and free of defects. ”

With an area of 35.6 hectares – which corresponds approximately to an area of 50 soccer fields – and a nominal output of 39,262.2 kilowatts peak (kWp), the solar park in Almelo is one of the larger free-field solar systems that bejulo implemented as an EPC partner. The construction period was six and a half months. The plant was commissioned on November 19, 2019 and handed over on December 5, 2019 on a turnkey basis, free of defects. A total of 120,808 modules and 18 transformer stations were installed. The expected output is forecast at 36,918 megawatt hours / year, which corresponds to the energy consumption of approximately 9,300 households per year. The Almelo photovoltaic park will save approximately 21.23 tons of CO₂ per year (calculation according to the German Federal Environment Agency 03/2010).
